125 years on from the First Hague Peace Conference, and over 100 years since its official opening, the Peace Palace in The Hague continues to serve as an important symbol of the ideals of international peace and justice.  This year, Australia’s gift to the founding of the Peace Palace, an ornate desk and inkstand featuring Australian animals and plants, was restored to its former glory by the Carnegie Foundation, responsible for the Peace Palace.
